Plastic painting
Plastic painting is possible and plastic painting with a good surface gives an amazing result.
Plastic painting is certainly possible. You have to ask yourself why you would want that.
In principle, you do not have to paint plastic. It can of course discolour somewhat over the years. Or the plastic layer looks dull. These causes can be due to weather influences. What can also be a cause is that there is not regular cleaning. Or is it a leak. Nowadays they make almost everything from plastic. Wind springs, gutters, buoy parts and so on. After all, you no longer need maintenance with plastic elements. That means you don’t have to paint this. What you do have to do is clean the plastic at least twice a year.. Special liquids have already been developed for this that you can use for this.
Plastic painting is not always necessary
The techniques are getting better and more beautiful. If you look closely you can hardly see the difference anymore. Then you have to look from a distance of course. The new plastic frames of today have become much better in quality and will no longer discolour so quickly. You can get plastic in all kinds of colors. You may want to replace it because you don’t like the color anymore. If you want to replace this, this is a fairly expensive job. Then plastic painting is a great alternative. It is important that you apply the correct substrate and that you do the preliminary work properly. The right surface, I mean the right primer. The right preparation involves good degreasing and sanding beforehand. If you do not do this, you will see this later in your result.

Painting plastic with the right preparation
With plastic painting you have to use the right preparatory work. You start with cleaning. However, this must be done precisely. There are many good all-purpose cleaners on the market today. You can also, of course, use ammonia as a degreaser. I myself am a fan of B-clean. You don’t have to rinse with this degreaser. Another advantage is that this degreaser is good for the environment. Do you want more information about this? Then click here on this link. When you have cleaned it well, you will sand the plastic well. And I mean well. Also sand all nooks and crannies. For these angles you can take a scotch brite. This is a smooth scouring pad that gets everywhere. Even in the tight corners. Use sandpaper with 150 grit. Then make everything dust-free and remove the last dust with a tack cloth.
Painting plastic with which paint
paint plastic
When painting plastic, it is important that you use the right primer. Inquire about this at a DIY store or paint store. On the other hand, you can also use a multiprimer. Read carefully in advance whether it is suitable for plastic painting. When you are going to paint a layer of lacquer, use a paint of the same paint brand. This prevents differences in tension and ensures that the subsequent layers adhere well to each other. Do not forget this. This is very important. What you also should not forget that you will sand lightly and dust between layers. If you follow this method you will never have any problems.
Do plastic painting yourself or have it done
You can always try plastic painting yourself first, or is it just the surface. If you really can’t or don’t want to paint, you can of course always have a quote made. In the following paragraphs I explain why you should apply a primer for plastic and what a fun and quick method is to do it yourself.
Primer for plastic why a primer.
Primer for plastic is a necessity.
When you later apply a layer of lacquer without a primer, you will see that it comes off again in no time.
The difference between primer and undercoat is nil.
Primer is the English word for primer.
But popularly, people soon talk about a primer.
A primer is for normal wood and a primer for other surfaces.
You have primers for plastic, MDF, PVC, metal and so on.
It’s the voltage difference.
A primer for plastic contains a substance that adheres well to the plastic.
And the same goes for metal.
That’s actually the difference.
A primer is also called an adhesive primer.
Before you apply that primer, you will first have to degrease and sand well.
Only then can you apply a primer.
Read more information about which primers there are here.
Plastic primer in an aerosol.
I walk a lot near the road and always have my ears and eyes open.
That’s how I came across an adhesive primer from Sudwest.
I saw a fellow painter use this and he was enthusiastic about it.
I asked where he bought it.
It was from a well-known purchasing organization and I immediately added it to my range.
What I’m talking about is a Sudwest adhesive primer in an aerosol can.
You no longer need a brush.
Really great and very easy.
It adheres immediately to the surface and dries quickly.
You can also use it on standing parts.
Then make sure you dose correctly.
Otherwise there is a risk of drips.
I read on the bus that it is not just a primer for plastics.
It is also suitable for metal, aluminum, copper, hard plastics such as PVC and even on old paintwork.
It also adheres to glazed tiles, concrete, stone and even wood.
So you can call it a multiprimer.
The word says it all: multi. By that I mean almost on all surfaces.
The aerosol also has insulating properties in case of penetrating fungi or substances that come out of the wood, the so-called bleeding.
You often see this bleeding with merant wood.
This wood can still bleed after years.
This is simply a property of this wood.
You will then see a brown fabric come out and you will see this in the form of stripes on your windowsill, for example.
The drying process of this adhesive primer is very fast.
The best part is that you can then paint the surface with all paint brands without any problems.
In short, a must!
Plastic primer and a checklist.
