Tracks are used to keep something in place, while still being able to move it along a straight line. This can be essential when using power tools for example, dangerous pieces of equipment you need to be able to move, but don’t want moving in your direction.

Also other things can move along a straight line efficiently, like the garage door rollers moving along a track to keep the door stable, but easy to move out of the way.
