Paint is any liquid, liquefiable, or mastic composition that, after application to a substrate in a thin layer, converts to a solid film. It is most commonly used to protect, color, or provide texture to objects. Paint can be made or purchased in many colors—and in many different types, such as watercolor, synthetic, etc. Paint is typically stored, sold, and applied as a liquid, but dries into a solid.

Paint

Paint, what is it

and what are the types of paint for exterior painting on your home.

Paint consists of 3 parts: pigments, solvent and a binder.

Pigments provide the color.

The solvent causes the dye to dry and harden.

The binder ensures, among other things, the gloss, scratch-resistant, wear-resistant, adhesion and durability.

It binds, as it were, pigment to the solvent.

For wooden parts, including window and door frames, wind springs, rebate parts, gutter and fascia parts (paneling of the gutters or tops of garages),  lacquer paint based on turpentine, the so-called alkyd paint, is used.

You can also use the paint on metal and plastic.

You have to use a multi-primer beforehand.

This primer adheres to that special surface.

Fortunately, nowadays people are looking at what is harmful to the environment.

That is why the high solid paints were created.

It contains fewer harmful substances, which is good for the environment and yourself.

Paint has many benefits

Paint has many advantages.

I will discuss them next.

You can use it right away without adding anything.

If the can goes further empty and you have a bottom left, it is sometimes better to add a few drops of white spirit to it to promote the spreading of the paint.

Lacquer paint is of better quality because these resins can be called very good, which ensure a good tension of the paint layer.

It is therefore of very high quality and it does not matter whether it is high-gloss or satin.

use . a high gloss for outside

High gloss is almost always used for outside and satin gloss for inside (softens the irregularities of the surface).

Because they contain a lot of solvents, they are resistant to moisture.

In addition, they absorb impacts well, without causing damage to the woodwork.

Durability also plays a role, this can be up to 6 to 9 years!

They give good coverage of the substrate and have a lot of gloss retention.

Lacquer  water-based

In addition to the paints based on turpentine, there are also water-based paints, also known as acrylic paint.

I will also describe this per article with regard to the paint brands.

How paint is made

How to make paint with a science and how to make paint by mixing yourself.

How to make paint is a process that we cannot simply imitate these days.

If you know that paint consists of three parts, then you should go for this.

After all, you need pigment crystals, a binder and a solvent to make paint.

With how do you make paint, I want to emphasize which colors you can make yourself.

We then go very far back and retrieve our knowledge.

What was that again?

Which colors can you combine to get a color?

And what are the basic colors again?

I explain this in the following paragraphs.

How do you make paint, what is paint actually.

Before we continue with how to make paint, I will first explain what paint is exactly.

Paint is a liquid mixture of three components.

Each component has its own function.

The first part is called pigments.

Pigments arise from pigment crystals.

These grow in places in the world and are mined.

Nowadays, these pigments are also made in-house.

These pigments ensure that a color is created.

The second part is the binding agent that ensures that a paint can withstand wear or scratches, for example, when it has cured.

Or that the paint layer can withstand moisture or UV light.

The third part is a solvent.

This solvent can be water or oil.

All these three parts are put together in a factory to form a kind of paint.

A code is immediately linked to the color so that you only have to pass on a code later to get that color.

There are many paint brands that have their own color code.

How do you produce paint and what are the basic colors.

How do you produce paint and what are the basic colors.

The paint mixing is done in such a way that the more colors you mix, the lighter the color becomes.

This initially happens with the basic colors.

The basic colors are red, green and blue. Do you remember?

Mixing green and red together gives you…yellow.

So by mixing green, red and blue in different proportions you get different colors.

The main mixing color is magenta, yellow and cyan.

Yellow I already explained to you.

Magenta is a mixture of red and blue.

Cyan is a mixture of green and blue.

And then we are talking about one hundred percent of the basic colors.

How to mix paint to make colors.

How do you mix paint to make colors I mean that you can add a color to a white latex paint yourself.

These are those tubes of color pastes that you can add.

I’m talking light colors about this.

Dark colors are hard to get.

For this you will have to buy different tubes to get that color.

That’s going to be really hard.

You will have to go to a paint store or hardware store for that.

Add this paste little by little.

If you are not sure of yourself, make a test piece and let it dry.

This way you can better see which color you ultimately want.

If you are going to mix yourself, you have to prepare enough in one go.

If you come up short, you can never adjust this again.

Make sure you keep a bottom to prevent possible damage from dots.

How is the paint mixed and a summary of the text.

How to make paint a memory:

paint is made in a factory.
Paint consists of three parts; pigment, binder and solvent.
Pigment provides the color.
Binder provides protection.
Solvent ensures the curing.
The basic colors are red, green and blue.
Mixing basic colors gives you multiple colors.
The more colors you mix, the lighter the color becomes.
Each color is associated with a color code consisting of numbers and letters.
You can add color pastes to mix yourself.

Who among you ever mixes a latex or another type of paint?

If so how did you do this and with what?

Was it satisfying or would you rather have the paint mixed?

Paints types: from alkyd to acrylic

Paint types

Paint for indoor painting and paints you use outside.

Before you buy paint, you must first determine which paint you need and how much. There are many types of paint for sale.

Paint types can be divided into two categories.

The types of paint that you use at home and that you use for outdoor painting.

You need a different type of paint for every surface or surface.

This also applies to the purposes.

It depends on which room you want to paint.

In a damp room you need a different type of paint than in a dry room.

For painting outside you often need UV-resistant paints that have a high gloss level.

After all, this is not necessary for indoors.

Paint types in your home.

First, you have the water-based paint.

This paint is also known as acrylic paint.

Read the article about acrylic paint here.

You can buy this type of paint HERE in my paint shop

Professional painters have had to work with this since 2000.

This paint is water-based and dries quickly.

In addition, it does not smell at all and does not yellow.

Usually a satin finish is chosen for the interior.

Used to paint doors and frames

These latex types have many properties and are intended to beautify ceilings and walls.

You then have washable latex, acrylic latex and whitewash.

Acrylatex is slightly breathable and can be cleaned well afterwards.

White lime is a powder that you have to mix yourself with water.

Often used in sheds. And it’s cheap.

The last category of indoor paints are special paints such as textured paint, paints that are especially suitable for floors and stairs.

In addition, there are types of paint that ensure that you no longer get mold in the house, the so-called insulating paints.

If you suffer from rising damp, you can also choose from different products.

Read the article about rising damp here.

The paints   outside.

For outside you first have the lacquer paint.

Read the article about lacquer paint here.

This lacquer paint is based on turpentine and is resistant to weather influences.

The lacquers are mainly used for doors, window frames, wall panelling, wind springs, gutters and so on.

The second type is the pickling.

These stains are applied to sheds, fences and paneling on houses such as red cedar.

It is a moisture-regulating system that ensures that you do not get wood rot.

Stain is available in color and transparent.

Read the article about stain here.

The transparent lacquers.

A third group is transparent lacquers.

This ensures that you continue to see the wood grains.

You have to perform maintenance every 3 years.

It doesn’t tolerate sunlight very well.

An advantage is that you can paint it directly on bare wood, so you don’t need a primer.

Another type of paint is wall paint.

This wall paint must be suitable for outdoor use.

For this there is the synthetic wall paint.

This is resistant to moisture.

Read the article about wall paint here.

Specific species.

Of course there are some specific types for special purposes.

I would like to explain one of these and that is the high solid paints.

This paint has fewer solvents and is therefore less harmful to yourself and the environment.

Of course every paint brand has its own products.

It is therefore sometimes difficult to choose from among these.

I have 1 rule myself.

I always choose the paint brand that was used before.

Then you know for sure that you are in the right place.

If you want to know more about paint brands, read here  about paint brands.
